HomelessPetRescue.com’s dogs and cats receive a significant amount of interest.

This is wonderful, as it helps us find them the best possible homes. However, before you proceed with adopting a new canine or feline companion, there are a few things you should know.

01. Complex Needs:

Many of our dogs and cats have complex needs, including behavioral issues or ongoing medical conditions. They require a human who can offer them more love, patience, and care than most pets.

02. Settling In:

Adopting an adult dog or cat doesn’t mean they will settle into your home quicker than a younger one. It may take several weeks or even months for them to feel comfortable and secure.

03. Understanding Their History:

We strive to learn as much as we can about the animals in our care. However, with rescue pets who have been abandoned, we might not always know their full history.

04. Adapting to Their New Home:

Once your pet has settled, they may not immediately like every person you introduce them to or enjoy certain activities you expect them to. Patience and understanding are key.

05. Ongoing Training and Care:

Your dog or cat may need ongoing daily training both inside and outside the home. Consider how much time and effort you can dedicate to this important aspect of pet care.

06. Support and Resources:

We understand there’s a lot to consider, and it might feel overwhelming. For more advice, read our article on what to think about before adopting a pet. We are here to support you every step of the way.

By adopting from HomelessPetRescue.com, you’re not only giving a pet a loving home but also making a meaningful difference in their lives.
